We met our gray cloud in the form of Ricky and Jorge, whose names combined in Spanish apparently mean "lengthy trail of destruction." They were nice, but could neither form a straight line nor a right angle, which is unfortunate because we depended on them to sheetrock the kitchen. Because we are going for a modern look with no trim, there is no hiding a bad line. Finally, we got them out of the house never to return. Unfortunately, we are going to have to straighten out the windows at a later date. On top of their sheetrocking incompetence, they broke lots of stuff, like 1) the water line to the refrigerator, 2) the halogen light in the dining room and 3) the front door key (while still in the lock, which forced us to use the back door for a couple of days). Unfortunately, the refrigerator water line became an issue at 5 PM on a Sunday night, which forced Campbell to spend 30 minutes under the house in a rainstorm hunting for a shutoff valve (which he eventually found and quickly stripped (but later closed)). The floors are being stained this week. The trick is to keep Sasha, with her long white hair and summer-induced super shedding, out of the kitchen while the stain and sealant are drying. Next week, the cabinets come and it will start to look like a kitchen again. After that, Carr Stone will measure for the countertops.
